3GS looking at environmental science

Today, 3GS discussed how human activity is causing the destruction of Arctic animal habitats.

We then wrote in our books about how this is caused, and what will happen if animal habitats are not protected.

I was proud of how hard everyone worked and the improvement to handwriting. Well done guys, the practice is paying off!

We are mathematicians

Today, we learnt how to divide a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number with a remainder. Miss Farrow’s maths class used matchsticks to help them work out the answers.

Danum Read Aloud Competition

Today in crew we have launched the Danum Read Aloud competition to our children in KS2 (Year 3,4,5 and 6).

The theme this year is book openings. Children can select their favourite from the selection of extract to perform for their crew. Winners will then go into the KS2 semi-final and winners from that will progress into the school final, held on Thursday 7th March – World Book Day.

One overall winner from our school final will be entered into the Doncaster final held at the Danum Museum and Art Gallery on 27th March.

Good Luck everybody!

Motivational Crew

Y3 took part in the floating lift challenge yesterday. We split off into mini Crews and were given the task of lowering the hoop down to the floor using only 1 or 2 fingers each. Students used a variety of skills too successfully lower the hoop to the ground without dropping it.

Year 3 Faith Day

This afternoon, we have been learning about the Islamic Religion, in particular, about the mosques where muslims worship.

After finding out some background information, we were really pleased to be joined by Rayyan’s mum, who talked to us and answered our questions about her faith.

After building our knowledge, we demonstrated what we had learnt by becoming Mosque Visitor guides.

I am so proud of how hard everyone worked. What a lovely way to learn more about the varied lives of people in our class, crew, school and community and to help us appreciate each other more.

We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to Ms Gent for coming in this afternoon to talk to us, we really appreciate you giving us your time.

3SG are Geographers!

Today, 3GS investigated the island of Svalbard north of Norway, looking at the physical and human features.

I wonder how it compares with Doncaster? We’ll find out tomorrow!
