Deaf School Visit

Year 2 were kindly invited to the Deaf School to support us with our learning for our Expedition. We were introduced to some of the children at the school and then we had to use their signing names to see if we could work out something about their personality. We did really well! Then we used some of the signs we had already learnt in school, along with some new ones, to play colour bingo. We had to focus hard because there weren’t any audio prompts. We had to watch and pay attention! Our last activity was learning to finger spell simple words and then to use the sign for that object. We have just started learning this in school so it was brilliant to get a chance to practice it!

We all had a brilliant time and learnt a lot. We all said thank you to the Deaf School for hosting us.

Come to Doncaster!

Today 2L has been learning about the features of posters. We looked at different examples of posters to help us understand what features they included to make them good. We decided that posters needed to be colourful, eye-catching, clear and bossy. Once we had finished, we critiqued each other’s posters and checked they had included all the features.

Posters!

2P has been learning about the features of posters. We looked at different examples of posters to analyse what we thought they included and what made them good. It was agreed that posters needed to be clear and concise. We then had a time limit to get across a simple message about visiting Doncaster. After the time was up, we critiqued whether we had achieved our objectives.

We are artists

Last week, Year 2 began their artwork case study. The children have started working on their drawing skills, working on line, shape, tone and value. I can’t wait to see how the children’s skills progress.

Well done for a great start everyone!

Finding Half!

In our lesson today we were recognising and finding half of a quantity. We know from our previous lessons that finding a half is when there are two equal groups. Around the room we had different numbers that the children worked in groups to find half of.

We then talked about having an odd numbers. We cannot find a half of an odd number as there will always be a spare.

One Million Words

Wow, wow, wow! Well done to everyone in my Reading group, you have all worked so hard and together you have managed to read one million words over the last term!

The children have worked so hard to develop their fluency, comprehension and inference skills and they have been enjoying using our Reading Plus platform. As you can see, they were so pleased to meet their goal!

Well done to all of you, you are all superstars!
