Human or Physical?

2P has been learning about the two main types of Geography; human and physical. We now know the difference between each different type. We then used our skills to identify these features in locations around Doncaster. We concluded that Doncaster is mainly made up of human features but we agreed we need more physical features as well!

Comprehending Doncaster!

2P have been using their English lessons to read different texts about the visitor locations in Doncaster. They used their reading skills to answer various types of questions whilst also learning more about what Doncaster has to offer.

Past Tense

In 2L this week we have been writing recounts and have been focussing on writing accurately in the past tense. The children enjoyed finding verbs and then used their magic wands to put them into the past tense. They knew to watch out for the sneaky verbs that were trying to catch us out by not ending in ed.

Piece of the Week

In 2L we have all been working hard to improve our handwriting so every week we will celebrate with a ‘Piece of the Week’. Everyone has been trying hard and congratulations go to Paisley for her beautiful writing last week and Sergei for his this week. Well done both of you! I wonder who our winner next week will be….

Keep it up everyone!

Messy maps!

2P have been learning about the difference between aerial views and aerial plans. We used this knowledge to make ‘messy maps’ of our classroom using different resources. It was really tricky trying to remember to look down from the ceiling but after much grappling, we began to create the shapes we needed. Great geography work 2P!

Pride of Plover!

A HUGE well done to our Pride of Plover winners this week. We absolutely love coming together to celebrate all of your amazing achievements both in school and out of school.

Well done to Summer, Almina, Tommy, Sergei and Mason, our fabulous Pride of Plover winners. Well done to Henry and John for the achievements at Gymnastics and at Beavers. Well done to all of our fabulous readers from Phonics and Reading Plus, you are incredible.

Keep up the good work everyone, we can’t wait to see who is up on the benches next week!

Messy Maps!

This afternoon we have been looking at our classroom and the key features we have in it. We began by looking at important vocabulary such as aerial view/Birds Eye view and discussed why that is important to this lesson. We wrote about what we already know and features we thought were really important. We played a game of “I Spy” with our friends to identify what we already had in our classroom. We then looked at different aerial view maps of different classrooms and compared them to ours. We then created a messy map, using different resources to create an aerial view map of our own classroom. The children could explain what they had used for tables, chairs, the desk, where the doors are in the classroom, etc.

We had lots of fun creating our maps!

Diverse Doncaster – Where do I belong?

Last Friday 2P went to the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum and had a wonderful time finding out about Doncaster in the past. The children enjoyed handling artefacts and finding out more about Doncaster through the ages.

The children were a real credit to Plover and we were so proud of them. A great big thank you to all the adults who came with us.

Where do we belong?

2L had a fabulous visit to Doncaster Museum where we learnt more about the place that we call our home. We explored many different parts of Doncaster’s history and learnt about why Doncaster is famous all over the world. We handled and explored artefacts during our workshop and then looked around the museum to see how Doncaster fitted into the world. We were amazed to see that people from all over the world lived in Doncaster nearly 2000 years ago!

We were so excited by what we had learnt that we all want to go back again! Our brains are now full of knowledge to use in our Expedition!
