Year 3 and 4 Home Learning

You should have now received the home leaning menu for our Spring Expedition ‘The Power of Life: What fuels us?’.

There are some useful dates for events happening throughout the term.

As well as some ideas for how to further the learning in this expedition, there is also a set of times tables and all the the spelling words from year 1 – 6 to give you an idea of what the children are expected to know.

In addition to the voluntary home learning activities, it is crucial that children are reading everyday at home, practicing their times tables and practising spellings. Please speak to your class teacher if you would like some more information on how to help your child.

I look forward to seeing how creative and innovative everyone can be at home.

Year 3 and 4 Times Tables Check Parent’s Information Session

I would like to invite Year 3 and 4 parents and carers to a times tables information session on Thursday 19th January at 3:15 in the school hall.

You may be aware that all children in Year 4 will have to complete a Times Tables Check, set by the Department for Education in the summer.

The session will last approx 45 minutes and will give more information about the check, as well as giving some tips for how to support your child over the coming months.

Please speak to your class teacher if you have any questions or if you are unable to attend.

We are producers, predators and prey!

Year three have learnt lots about food chains this morning – they have been thinking about producers, predators and prey. They noticed that producers regrow in the correct environments; wolves are awesome at hunting deer; deer eat grass; humans consume both meat and plants; and that fire can consume everything! They identified some great notices, praises and wonders about the game we played which helped us to learn this information.

We can identify electrical hazards!

Leading our own learning with Miss Telford’s support has been both educational and fun this morning! We have used ’Switched on Kids’ to do this. We have been able to extend our understanding of how electricity travels to our houses; know how to be electrically safe; and identified some methods of sustainable living.

Well done 3H you have worked brilliantly for Miss Telford this morning…I am so proud of you all.

Happy New Year

Welcome back. happy New Year, I hope you all had a lovely break over the Christmas holidays.

It has been great seeing all the children back in today. We have been excited to start our new expedition: The Power of Life – What fuels us?

Just a reminder that Student Led Conferences (SLCs) are taking place this week and you should have been informed of dates and times by your class teacher. These meetings are being led by your child and they will be discussing their learning with you, so they do need to come with you.

To support you with the SLCs, you should have received a data snapshot via email today, to give you information about the progress of your child over the last term. Please check your junk mail if you have not received or speak to your class teacher.

I look forward to seeing you over the coming days.

LKS2 Celebration of Learning

Thank you so much to everyone that attended our Celebration of Learning. We are so proud of the children and the hard work the have put into our “How does war change lives?” expedition.

It was wonderful for the children to share their learning with parents, carers and friends and it was especially nice to have our expert visitors return to school to celebrate with us.

Well done to all the children that volunteered to narrate our learning and a shout out to the great singing (despite the odd technical difficulty).

Our final product book will be available after Christmas.

Kind request

We are finalising preparations for our nativity. We are currently a couple of items short for the costumes. We are wondering if anyone has any of the following spare we could borrow or donate to the costume bank.

  • White leggings or tights
  • Plain grey or brown T-Shirts
  • Brown leggings or tights
  • a pair of black leggings or tights
  • a plain black T-Shirt
  • White tutus

We would also appreciate any KS1 size white T-shirts that children have outgrown.

Also, if anyone has a 6-7 / 7-8 Donkey costume we could borrow, we would be really grateful.

Any help would be really appreciated

Year 3 and 4 Celebration of Learning

In tomorrow’s celebration of learning, children can bring their evacuee/World War 2 costume (that they wore for the Wilderspin trip) and get changed before the performance.

If they do not want to wear a WW2 costume, they can wear their normal school uniform.

We look forward to seeing you at 1:30 tomorrow (Thursday 8th December)

Open The Book Assembly

This week, we were visited by a wonderful team of people from Open The Book, who performed the nativity story for the whole school. The children listened so carefully to the retelling of the story and really enjoyed themselves.

Proud yellow t-shirt winner

Well done to Caleb who has won the yellow t-shirt this week. You are such a super star, young man. Keep working hard and getting smart and you’ll achieve even more than you think you can!
