This afternoon, 1/2K created our own pond. We discussed what we would need to create our pond. We found out we would need fresh water (not salt water), plants and rocks.
SAVE OUR SEAS!
This afternoon in 1/2K we learned about pollution in more detail. We learned that pollution is usually rubbish that has been dumped into the rivers and carried out to sea. We found out that it can end up in the deepest part of the ocean; The Mariana Trench. We practiced our recycling by sorting different objects into plastic, metal and paper. Then we created posters to help raise awareness about sea pollution and what it is doing to the animals.
Snow ❄️
Checking the weather this morning for our Weather Diary…..
twit twoo! 🐦
This afternoon we have been bird watching. We put our coats on to see what birds we could spot in our local environment. To our surprise we saw lots of different types of birds. We created a tally chart of all of the birds we could find and the most common one we spotted was a blackbird. Thank you for the loveliest afternoon 1/2K!
Woodland Habitats 🌳
This afternoon 1/2K discussed the habitats of animals that fly. We focussed on the woodland and the different layers of the woods. We also discussed the importance of having woodland areas and what it would mean for birds if they were chopped down.
We then used natural resources to create a woodland picture.
Life Cycles 🦋
This afternoon we have been talking about life cycles and metamorphosis. We then created the life cycle of a butterfly using different shapes of pasta to represent each stage.
Bird Experts 🦅
This afternoon 1/2K took part in an online learning lesson all about Birds. As part of the lesson we learned about lots of different varieties of birds that we might find here in the U.K. and what we can do to help look after them as lots of birds are losing their habitats.
We had lots of fun taking part in the quiz online!
How can I be a hero to my friends?
Last week, we learnt all about Bullying and what that means. We also discussed online safety and what we can do to support other children who might be lonely.
This week, we have decided to showcase everything that we had learnt and make an instructional video on what other children could do in the scenarios we discussed previously. The children had lots of fun showing off their drama skills. They also answer our guiding question “How can I be a hero to my friends?” and reflect on some of the key vocabulary we have been learning about.
1LI Case Study Reflection
Our current expedition is ‘Not all heroes wear capes: How will I be a hero in my community?’
As part of case study 3, we have investigated the themes of kindness and anti-bullying. Today, the children made a video to share their reflections.
1/2K – Week 3
What we got up to last week:
In PE we have been continuing to work on our team work skills. The children were split into small groups and had the task of getting across the playground using only two skipping ropes without falling off. They were amazing!
In Maths we have been looking at subtraction. We looked at this in a variety of different ways.
Kindness Week: We have loved all of our kindness week activities as part of our new case study! We have made kindness badges (with the help of our lovely Year 6 students) to remind everyone to be kind. We talked about the importance of friendships and what it takes to be a good friend! We had a very special visit from some nurses for our Safe Touch talk. We discussed the importance of positive relationships, what they look like and the importance of trusted adults.
