1C HAVE COURAGE

This half-term, our focus has been on the character trait of Courage. We have spent time exploring what courage looks like, sounds like, and feels like. The children shared some fantastic ideas, describing courage as standing up for yourself and others, trying new things even when they feel tricky, and having the bravery to face challenges head-on. One of the highlights of our learning was taking part in Mr. Longley’s “Courage Challenge”. The children spun the wheel to see which silly challenge they would complete. Each child faced their own challenge independently, showing determination and bravery while having lots of fun. It was wonderful to see everyone encouraging each other and celebrating each success.

In Time to Read Crew, we listened to the classic story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Our challenge was to act out the story in small groups in front of our friends. Everyone showed great courage, stepping into their roles confidently and performing with enthusiasm. It was inspiring to see the children support each other and embrace the spotlight.

This half-term has shown us that courage comes in many forms—whether it’s trying something new, performing in front of others, or simply facing a challenge with a smile. We are so proud of how the children have embraced courage in their learning and play!

Teamwork makes the DREAM WORK

In our crew session today, we focused on the importance of teamwork and why working together really matters. To put this into action, the children were set an exciting challenge: build a bridge that could hold 500g for at least 30 seconds.

Each group was given a selection of materials but no instructions at all – it was completely up to them to plan, design and build as a team. This encouraged lots of discussion, problem-solving and collaboration along the way.

The results were amazing! All five groups created very different bridge designs, and every single one was successful in holding the weight. A fantastic achievement and a brilliant example of teamwork in action.

Well done, everyone – engineers in the making!

A very mindful Monday in Crew Crawford

This week in our Crew Session, we have been focusing on mindfulness — learning how to slow down, pay attention, and be present in the moment.

To help us explore this idea, we played the Pom Pom Game — a fun and simple activity that encourages deep breathing. As we took slow breaths in and out, we watched the pom poms move gently, helping us to stay focused and relaxed. There were lots of smiles (and a few giggles!) as we learned that being calm and still can also be great fun.

We are Family!

In ‘We Care Crew’, we talked about our families. We then drew all the people and pets who live in our house. We then used sticks to make the square for our house and the triangle for our roof. Our crew display board is filling up fast! We noticed that all our pictures weren’t the same and that our families may be different but we are all loved. #love plover #wearecrew

Crew Crawford’s Time to Sign

On our Wednesday Crew, we have been learning how to sign. We have been recapping all the greetings they have learned. We have even challenged ourselves to “silent check-ins”, completed fully in sign! Here are some videos so you can sign along too!

Family learning in Crew Brown

On the final day of Hook Week, we spent some of the morning in our crews designing a Crew robot. We combined our ideas to design a robot that makes healthy snacks/drinks and encourages different physical activities to keep people fit and healthy. I would like to say a huge shoutout to all of the adults who came in to support the children with creating the robot in our family learning event in the afternoon. Everyone worked well together to make our amazing design a reality and should be super proud of the end product.

Acts of Service

In Year 1, our act of service is in preparation for something that is quite a few months away for some very special people in our lives. We have planted some Daffodils and designed a special gift label. We began by weeding the planters before Mrs. Brookes (Our Gardening Expert) came to help us with the planting.

Graffiti Artist!

On Wednesday, we met James! James talked to us all about Graffiti art. Unfortunately, we were a bit too young for the spray paints but we did a fabulous job rolling the background.

Caring Crew❤️

As part of our Crew Curriculum this term we have been discussing Mental Wellbeing and the importance of being mentally healthy as well as physically healthy.
Some of the strategies we talked about this morning to help our wellbeing included practicing gratitude, showing kindness and compassion for others and keeping physically active.
we then discussed the things that make us happy. We talked about our favourite books, films, activities and food; our favourite things!

Motivational crew 💙

This week in Crew, we worked together in mini crews to solve some tricky matchstick puzzles. From this we learnt the importance of taking part, having a resilient attitude, thinking outside of the box and listening to others ideas respectfully. Well done crew!
