In Year 1, our act of service is in preparation for something that is quite a few months away for some very special people in our lives. We have planted some Daffodils and designed a special gift label. We began by weeding the planters before Mrs. Brookes (Our Gardening Expert) came to help us with the planting.
Graffiti Artist!
On Wednesday, we met James! James talked to us all about Graffiti art. Unfortunately, we were a bit too young for the spray paints but we did a fabulous job rolling the background.
Caring Crew❤️
As part of our Crew Curriculum this term we have been discussing Mental Wellbeing and the importance of being mentally healthy as well as physically healthy.
Some of the strategies we talked about this morning to help our wellbeing included practicing gratitude, showing kindness and compassion for others and keeping physically active.
we then discussed the things that make us happy. We talked about our favourite books, films, activities and food; our favourite things!
Motivational crew 💙
This week in Crew, we worked together in mini crews to solve some tricky matchstick puzzles. From this we learnt the importance of taking part, having a resilient attitude, thinking outside of the box and listening to others ideas respectfully. Well done crew!

We Care Wednesday – 1C
As part of this weeks We Care Wednesday curriculum in Crew, 1C discussed ways we can regulate our emotions. We recognised that its okay not feel okay all the time, and there are things we can do to help ourselves when we feel low.
Take a look at some of the lovely ideas Crew came up with!
Motivational crew 💙
For Mondays Crew session, we worked on our teamwork and communication skills to balance a balloon in pairs while walking across the room. Well done to the winning team who was the quickest!

1LI Case Study Reflection
Our current expedition is ‘Not all heroes wear capes: How will I be a hero in my community?’
As part of case study 3, we have investigated the themes of kindness and anti-bullying. Today, the children made a video to share their reflections.
1/2K – Week 3
What we got up to last week:
In PE we have been continuing to work on our team work skills. The children were split into small groups and had the task of getting across the playground using only two skipping ropes without falling off. They were amazing!
In Maths we have been looking at subtraction. We looked at this in a variety of different ways.
Kindness Week: We have loved all of our kindness week activities as part of our new case study! We have made kindness badges (with the help of our lovely Year 6 students) to remind everyone to be kind. We talked about the importance of friendships and what it takes to be a good friend! We had a very special visit from some nurses for our Safe Touch talk. We discussed the importance of positive relationships, what they look like and the importance of trusted adults.
World Kindness Day 2023 in 1LI
As part of World Kindness Day and Odd Socks Day, we have been thinking about how we can be special, stand out and kind.
We came up with some lovely suggestions to make sure we are kind and make each other happy.
1/2K – Our week this week!
Maths:
This week 1/2K have been getting active in the classroom. We’ve been enjoying some counting exercises to warm up for Maths! We have also been bringing technology into the classroom during our Maths lesson and working in pairs to develop our team working skills.
English:
This week we have been learning all about independent clauses that contain a subject and a verb with a little help from Beyoncé. We used pictures from our class story to inspire our writing and the children wrote some excellent sentences! I’m so proud of them.
Art:
As part of our remembrance topic, we have been creating Poppy art. First we drew our poppies using wax crayons. Then we used the water colours to create a background. We were able to wash over our wax crayon picture without it smudging; it was like magic! The children talked about using different colours to represent the smoke there might have been or browns puddles to make mud. We also made poppies using wire, buttons and cupcake cases. It was very fiddly but we are so pleased with the result.
Crew:
As part of our We Care Wednesday, we were exploring the nature of friendships and discussing what it takes to be a great friends. We decided that the most important quality in a friend is to be kind and caring.
