4V had purple teeth!

Last week, we learnt about teeth! We brushed our teeth and then used disclosing tablets to show what we missed. We had super clean teeth by the end of the day!

Sodexo’s generous donation to Plover!

Staff and students at Plover School are incredibly grateful to Sodexo at Doncaster Royal Infirmary for their generous book drive, organised in collaboration with Chapter One. Their dedication to collecting and donating used children’s books has had a significant impact on our school community. This contribution helps ensure our students have access to quality reading materials, fostering a love for literacy that will benefit them for years to come.

A particularly special moment was when we welcomed Nia to our school. Mrs Lewis and Class 2L were thrilled to meet her, as they listened to her read to them a story and ask thoughtful questions afterwards. The warmth and generosity shown by Sodexo and Chapter One have left a lasting impression, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in education. On behalf of Plover School, we extend our heartfelt thanks for their kindness and commitment to making a difference in children’s lives.

F2 Pride of Plovers

Well done to Larah-Jean, Thea and Skyla for being our Pride of Plovers in F2. The girls have impressed us so much with their attitude to learning and wanting to learn more and more. Working independently to read and producing some beautiful work for their final product. #LovePlover

Powdery eggs, purple teeth and poo in 4G!

We have been scientists this week!

First, we investigated how to look after our teeth:

We looked at the results of the egg experiment we started before half term. We placed eggs into different liquids ( water; orange juice; cola; energy drink and vinegar ) to represent the sugars and acids in the foods and drinks we consume. Our results we amazing – the energy drink’s shell had become a powdery crust and the shell of the vinegar egg completely dissolved, turning the white of the egg completely solid and making the egg resemble a bouncy ball. This showed us that sugars and acids have a negative effect on our teeth.

Building on the experiment, we then looked at how well we clean our teeth, by using disclosing tablets to highlight areas of our teeth we might miss when brushing. We had some very sparkly teeth at the end of that session.

Finally, after learning about the digestive system, we created ‘poo’ in the classroom! Using biscuits, banana and orange juice, a long tube, a funnel, a pair of tights and a knife and fork, we recreated the mechanical process of how we digest our food. We had a gross alert and a few couldn’t watch – but we did have fun!

Following instructions

In English this week Year 2 have been busy reading instructions, following instructions and identifying the features of instructions. Today the children followed instructions and made a sun catchers. They look fantastic and really brighten up our classroom. Well done everyone, you did a great job!
