This week we have been working as scientists, we have made Oobleck and tried to determine if it is a liquid or a solid, we have beenusing thermometers to find the warmest and coldest areas in school and then observing ice cubes to discover if temperature affects the rate of melting.
We really have been engaged in our learning and can’t wait to discover more about solids, liquids and gases.

This week we have started case study 3. We read the story Billy’s Bucket, then used our imaginations to decide where our buckets would take us. We had a go at drawing what would be inside our buckets, then some children chose to follow up their own learning by drawing and designing, the outside of their bucket.

We are learning all about the Egyptians. 6R have been doing a lot of hands on learning this week. We have mummified a tomato, to understand the process of mummification. They have baked bread and learned about the Egyptian diet. We have learned about the pyramids, the pharaohs and how they used the river Nile.
Today 2L has been learning about the features of posters. We looked at different examples of posters to help us understand what features they included to make them good. We decided that posters needed to be colourful, eye-catching, clear and bossy. Once we had finished, we critiqued each other’s posters and checked they had included all the features.

To kick start our new Science case study, we have been exploring what solids, liquids and gases are. We have found examples around the room, described their properties and explained why they are so different by how their particles are arranged. Super start to the new term! Well done 4B!

Inspired by the Dr Seuss story, we made our own Oobleck to investigate states of matter. We were intrigued to discover that Ooblek is a ‘non-Newtonian fluid’, meaning it behaves like both solid and liquid. We then wrote about our observations. Great fun, well done all!
Last week, Year 2 began their artwork case study. The children have started working on their drawing skills, working on line, shape, tone and value. I can’t wait to see how the children’s skills progress.
Well done for a great start everyone!
Well done to Oliver for being our Pride of Plover. Oliver has been following his morning routine and coming to the carpet. The children in our crew were able to say how amazing Oliver has been.
