This week F1 have been learning all about hedgehogs. We used a variety of different materials to create our own hedgehogs including paint, glue/leaves and clay. There has been some absolutely beautiful artwork, all the children have worked so hard!
Today we made clay creatures. Some children made hedgehogs and some made owls. They used different media and tools. I was very impressed with what they made.
This half term, we’re delighted to celebrate two amazing members of 5L who have won the Half-TermlyPresentation Award for their fantastic improvement in handwriting , George and Casey!
Over the past few weeks, both children have shown real determination to make their writing neater, clearer, and more consistent. Their hard work and focus have truly paid off, and their  books are a joy to read. From careful joins to beautifully formed letters, George and Casey have demonstrated the character trait of craftsmanship and quality – taking pride in their work, paying attention to detail, and striving to produce their very best every time.
Well done, George and Casey – I’m so proud of your progress, perseverance, and commitment to excellence. Keep up the brilliant effort!
This week, our children have been diving into the delightful story of Elvis the Elf. As we’ve been reading, the focus has been on developing fluency — reading smoothly, with expression, and understanding the meaning behind the words.
Today, we took this a step further by introducing something special: the Storyteller Voice
The storyteller voice helps bring a story to life! It’s how readers use expression, tone, and pacing to make the story more engaging for the listener. For example, when Elvis feels excited or surprised, our voices might sound brighter or faster. When something mysterious happens, our voices might slow down and become softer.
By using their storyteller voices, children are not only making their reading more interesting to hear, but also deepening their understanding of the characters and events in the story. Thinking about how Elvis might sound, or why a moment feels happy, sad, or funny, helps them connect more deeply with the text.
You can support this at home by:
Encouraging your child to read aloud to you, using their storyteller voice.
Taking turns reading different characters or sections.
Talking together about how the story made you feel and why the characters might act or speak a certain way.
We’re so proud of how confidently the children are growing as expressive, thoughtful readers. Elvis the Elf has certainly helped us sprinkle a little storytelling magic into our reading this week!
We had a lovely time learning about Autumn today. We learnt the word hibernate and what happens to some animals as they prepare for Winter. The children collected leaves and made hedgehogs and leaf people. We also went on an Autumn walk, looking at the changing colours. We enjoyed crunching the leaves too.
Well done to all of you superstars who have even been emailing me your home learning/revision during the holidays! This half term, I have received the most home learning I have ever received whilst teaching at Plover!
Our prize draw will take place on Monday so you still have time to share any of the work you have completed.
Keep working hard and getting smart, I know we are going to SMASH this year!
This week, the children have continued looking at the legacy of Rosa Parks actions. They have considered how we can show compassion and respect within our communities. In our crew sessions we have looked at racism as part of the work on ‘Show Racism the Red Card’.
Today F1 gave racism the red card. We all wore red to stand up to racism and learnt about being kind to everyone, no matter the colour of their skin/their beliefs.
The children built a castle and then a road. They worked together and made it go round the other side of school. They used their gross motor skills to carry, balance and move in different ways.
