All about animals in 3B

We’ve had some fun, active lessons learning all about animals in Hook Week. First, we played an active food chain game to learn about the flow of energy within a food chain between grass, deer and wolves. Then, we worked in teams to classify different types in animals as either a mammal, reptile, amphibian, insect, fish, bird or arachnid based on their different features. Everyone took part and had lots of fun while learning.

Crew Graves Family Learning

A big thank you to the parents and carers that joined us for our Family Learning event on Friday. We made a crew robot, created tin can robots and completed robot puzzles.

Everybody got really stuck in and it was great to see the teamwork as our crew robot grew!

Shapes

In Year 2 this week we have been learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. We have been using the words sides and vertices when we have been describing shapes and we also practiced making and drawing 2D shapes using a Geoboard.

Can you name the shapes we made?

Being creative

Do you know where your eyes are on your head? This was one of the questions that we answered today. Some of the children thought that they were at the very top but when we used our hands to slide down our faces we realised that they were in the middle.

The children created pictures of faces using different materials and media. Have a look at our creations.

Back to school!

It’s been lovely to see everyone back in F1 this week, and how nicely our early starters have slotted in, making lots of new friends. We’ve had lots of fun exploring the snow, role play and working on our fine/gross motor skills.

See how I have grown

We shared the story Once there were giants. We compared the baby and toddler pictures to the visitors we have had this week. The children then drew their own timeline and could say how they have grown and what they can do now.

5 and 2 makes 7

Today we have been learning about numbers within the number seven. We saw that if you placed a tower of 5 cubes behind a tower of 7 you couldn’t see the 5 as 7 was 2 more. The children then explored how to make 7. Well done to Hana and Charlotte who used the blocks to explore 7. Riley and Alex could say different ways to make 7.

5S are artists

Year 5 enjoyed developing their sketching skills by using a grid to assist in drawing an outline of our model of courage for this term: Ben Parkinson.

Watch this space for an exciting project which will incorporate the work of every child in year 5 and 6!
