At this week’s swimming lesson, as part of drowning prevention week, Year 5 worked with the teachers to understand the key aspects of water safety, and learning to swim when they are fully clothed. Every child fully understood the importance and was able to articulate well how they could remain safe.
To supplement this, we created water safety posters in our we care Wednesday crew session which are now on display at the leisure centre, well done!

Thank you to everyone who’s continued to send sun hats this week. We have had lots of fun learning outdoors, enjoying the sunshine!

Year 2 have had a brilliant day learning about the history of flight. We enjoyed looking at planes, learning about jet engines and making our own helicopters. We came face to face with models of the Wright Flier, Halifax bombers, Hurricanes and Spitfires. We saw parts from Concorde and found out about a pioneering pilot called Amy Johnson.
We had a wonderful time in the sunshine and we’re sure Year 1 are going to have a great time too.
We’d like to thank the staff at the Air Museum for a great day and thank the children for their brilliant behaviour.

We presented certificates to 2 superstars today. Kayra has just joined our school and has settled well. Her new friends have appreciated her kindness.
Edith has been working hard and has shown that she is such an excellent example of the
Plover Pledge for kindness.

We loved having Catharine back in from the National Literacy Trust. She shared our key text ‘The Great Nursery Rhyme Disaster’ with the children and enjoyed singing a range of rhymes. Catharine very kindly brought all the children a copy of Goldilocks and the three bears to take home as well, to share with their families.

Today we have been exploring forces, learning 3 key words; force, push and pull. We tested out these forces by using tires and skipping ropes. We discussed how some of us found these quite easy and others more tricky.

Year 5 had a fabulous time at the National Coal Mining Museum, touring the site of a real coal mine (Caphouse), learning about all the processes and history of the site from TC – our tour guide with over 40 years’ experience working in the industry.
It was great to hear that our groups were the best behaved their guide had ever led through the tour – you represented the school brilliantly!
