Shining bright!

To celebrate shining our lights this week, we had a glow party. All week we have noticed kindness in the jobs people do and also in ourselves and how we spread kindness like light. We are so proud of all our children this week- they light up our lives every single day!

Fieldwork explorers

2P had a fabulous time on our fieldwork visit to Sandall Beat Woods. We learnt about the food that poor and rich people would have eaten in Medieval times and how food was cooked over open fires. We made some Peasant food. We used the vegetables that would have been available at the time to make a simple vegetable soup. The children were really surprised at how tasty it was – well, most of them! We then made our own piece of flat bread, which was cooked in the clay oven. Finally, we did our own cooking over the fire to make caramelised apples and smores. We then constructed a simple castle structure and tested our security with a flour bomb attack. We just about got away unscathed! We practised our soldier skills and then had a flour bomb fight to see if we could beat our opposition. It was a fabulous visit and we are now much more knowledgeable about different roles in a castle.

We Are Historians

This week we have done a slice on ‘how can you shine your light?’ We have learnt about Diwali and Bonfire Night, including the history of Guy Fawkes. We spoke about Bonfire safety and created our own sparklers and fireworks pictures in provision, the children have worked so hard.

Y5/6 Netball Comp

Well done to some of our Y5/6 girls who took part in a netball tournament this afternoon at Laurel Academy in Mexborough. The girls developed their skills as the tournament went on. They missed out on reaching the final by a last minute point 2.1. #LovePlover

Shine your light!

What a brilliant afternoon we had! We had some expert visitors.

Firefighters shine their light by saving people and keeping them safe. We learned about keeping safe on bonfire night. The most fun part was trying their kits on…or was it using the hose to knock the footballs off the cones? Or was being in the drivers seat of he truck? Or was it being in the back trying on the headphones and looking out of the windows pretending to be real FIREFIGHTERS? Oh, we can’t choose! Another awesome day at Plover school!

We are historians

In 2L we are enjoying our new History Case Study. Today the children found out all about a significant person in our history, Queen Elizabeth II. We learned about her life and then put important events into chronological order on a timeline.

We learned lots of facts about her. Did you know her favourite castle was Balmoral Castle in Scotland? Oliver thought it would be very peaceful there away from the crowds in London.

Check out our timelines.
