Year 2 settled down to watch The Bee Movie. This film links nicely to our current expedition and helped us to see the things that bees like in their habitat and to help them to survive. We were also able to imagine what life could be like as a bee and why we need to look after them!

2P have been Scientists today by using their observational skills to conduct a survey. We took part in the RSPB’s Big School Bird Watch and spent time looking and identifying different bird species. We will submit our data to be used in the national survey. We were surprised by how many birds we saw considering how cold it was. Wood Pigeon were definitely the most common!

Today we created a story map of Goldilocks and The Three Bears. The children were able to retell the story as we went along and decide what picture we should draw.
Charlotte and Edith then created their own fantastic story map by cutting out pictures and sticking the, on, and then fantastically re told the story using it. They also did some beautiful handwriting to write their names on it, well done girlies you are amazing!

2P have been learning about woodland habitats. We used our knowledge of the layers of woodlands to recreate a habitat scene from natural materials. We tried to include the forest floor and winter trees. We even attempted to make animals and birds from the materials around us!

Fun and active ways to practise times tables proved a hit this afternoon. It’s amazing how competitive the usually quite ones were…you know who you are people! Well done and keep practising those multiplication facts at home too. Perhaps you could challenge others at home like we did with each other today? Let’s get those minutes and scores up on TT!

Today in Maths, we noticed that any number divided by itself always equals 1. We also noticed that the quotient (answer) of a division question will be the same as the dividend (the amount that will be divided) if our divisor (what we divide by) is 1.
Well done everyone – some great links made today. I wonder if you can apply today’s fluency to tomorrow’s reasoning and problem solving…

We have been so lucky today to meet a real-life polar bear scientist in a live online call.
Joanna really brought our expedition to life today, when she talked to us about her job studying polar bears and telling us about how they live on the arctic ice.
