I was blown away by these superstars who have produced the most beautiful Tudor roses out of clay I have ever seen! They drafted and re-drafted to make their final designs as accurate as possible.
I cannot wait to see them painted! 10 crew coins each for ‘working hard’.
6B demonstrated courage last week as they critiqued one another’s work. They created their own success criteria based on models of age related and greater depth writing. They supported one another’s in ensuring their work was the best it could be. I really enjoyed reading their critiqued versions.
As part of our Geography case study, 2P learnt what was meant by the phrases’ bird’s eye view’ and ‘aerial view’. We then linked this to how maps are created and why they use an aerial view. We explored our classrooms and imagined what they would look like from above. We then used different resources to create a simple map of our classroom. We did really well!
Phil Sheppard kindly came into school to share his expertise as a local author and illustrator. He has written a children’s book all about Doncaster and he came to share how he went about creating the book. Phil shared his journey to becoming an author and answered lots of brilliant questions about his ‘Discover Doncaster’ book. Thanks, Phil!
Year 2 had a visit from Geoff, from the XP Communications team. He brought in his drone and demonstrated how the drone was flown and how it worked. This was a hook for our Geography learning, which begins with understanding what a bird’s-eye view is and how it is used for maps. Geoff got some footage and shared how far we could see from the drone up in the sky.
During Hook Week, 2P carried out different challenges that compared Doncaster with Mexico. We started with a music battle where we compared artists from Doncaster with Mexican artists. We then carried out a food challenge where we sampled different typical foods from each country. There were some interesting flavours, but liquorice, celery and chillis definitely received interesting reactions! Our final battle was with language, where we looked at how we can use some English words to work out the meaning of Spanish words and then we learnt some basic Spanish greetings.
Our final activity was to produce a piece of pointillism artwork, with a Mexican theme, inspired by the story and work of Frieda Kahlo. Great work 2P!
We will be hosting a London meeting next half term (March- date TBC). We appreciate some people may have changed their minds and no longer want their place. If this is the case, please let me know ASAP as we have a large waiting list.
Plover’s first Rockathon was awesome! Well done to everyone who smashed out answers to so many times tables questions. You all looked pretty fabulous too!
Keep working hard on those times tables up to 12 x 12 at home as well as at school please Year 4. It’s not long until your official multiplication times tables check.
