Family learning

Just a reminder that Monday is our family learning session at 2pm. We will be making hedgehogs. There will not be Book and a biscuit.

Using Numicon on Number day

We had a whole day learning and experiencing numbers. We made numbers using construction outside. We added and subtracted in the sand pit. We used Numicon to make pictures and we painted numbers.

An amazing model

We have been learning about trees and the animals that live in them having read After the storm by Nick Butterworth. Ayman created his own tree which he also labelled. We are very proud of Ayman’s learning today.

Working together – Phase 3 phonics

We have been working together to practice reading words containing phase 3 graphemes. Today we used pictures and words and the children had to read the words and see if the word matched the pictures. The children were very enthusiastic.

We are continuing to practice our phase 3 graphemes, recognising them, reading and writing them in words.

Reading support

There will be a meeting for any parent interested in coming into school to listen to children read in F2.  Mrs Ibbertson will explain how we teach children to read and how you can help.

The meeting will be on Wednesday 26th February @ 2.30.

Please let Mrs Price know if you are interested in attending.

Thank you for your support

Today we investigated the best material to make Little Red Riding Hood’s coat out of.

The children predicted which would be the best material and why. We then tested the materials. We had to wait to see if the water would wet Red Riding Hood hiding in the cup. She got wet several times! We watched very closely.

Finally we agreed that plastic would be best. We learnt the word waterproof and had a look at our own waterproofs, coats and wellies.

The challenge will now be to make a coat for Red Riding Hood that won’t tear and will keep her dry.

Pairs of socks

This week in maths we are learning to group objects. We have talked about equal and unequal groups and have now started learning about groups of 2’s, 5’s and 10’s

Today we used socks and objects to help us make pairs. Lots of children confused the number of objects with the number of pairs so we will continue to work on this.

Ideas to practice at home

Sorting socks into matching pairs and counting the pairs

Find pairs of objects around the house

Find pairs of objects on the body eg 2 eyes and say how many pairs

Book and a biscuit

Thank you to all the adults that came to read with their child today. It was lovely to see so many children engaged in reading. If you couldn’t make it then don’t worry. The sessions will be on a Monday and a Friday 2.30-3.00.

Tunnels, Burrows and lots of paint

F2 have continued to enjoy playing in provision and developing areas. After our visit to the woods, we have been learning about burrowing and tunneling animals. We’ve turned our reading area into a rabbit’s burrow and enjoyed building mole and rabbit tunnels in our digging area.

We have created some beautiful artwork this week. Children have enjoyed sketching and painting characters from Little Red Riding Hood. We are getting really good at mixing the colours we need. We hope you will look out for our art work around our classrooms as we’re really proud of it!
