The Bears have arrived in F1!

Our children have enjoyed creating a large Daddy Bear, a medium sized Mummy Bear and a tiny Baby Bear. We are using different words for describing size. Please try this at home to enrich our vocabulary. Then Goldilocks arrived………..

Success!

Thank you very much to all those adults who stayed for “Book and a Biscuit” on Friday morning! It was an enthusiastic start to having this special time in the setting. It will be every Friday so don’t worry if you weren’t able to attend this week. Also if you wish to read with our children at a different time during the week you are very welcome.

Reading support

There will be a meeting for any parent interested in coming into school to listen to children read in F2.  Mrs Ibbertson will explain how we teach children to read and how you can help.

The meeting will be on Wednesday 26th February @ 2.30.

Please let Mrs Price know if you are interested in attending.

Thank you for your support

Book and a biscuit!

Adults are very welcome to stay on a Friday morning from 8.45 am until 9.15 am to read a book with their child. The books are out in the classroom ready for you to choose from with your child.

When you read to your child while they are cuddled up, warm and comfortable next to you, you make them feel loved. This makes them remember the feeling of being loved when they look at books. So when they pick up a book they feel loved and will become a better reader for having a love of books. This means that they will be a better writer too! When you are reading your voice changes. It slows down and the child hears every word that you say. If reading at home is right then reading at school will be more successful too!

We look forward to seeing you on Friday morning.

Today we investigated the best material to make Little Red Riding Hood’s coat out of.

The children predicted which would be the best material and why. We then tested the materials. We had to wait to see if the water would wet Red Riding Hood hiding in the cup. She got wet several times! We watched very closely.

Finally we agreed that plastic would be best. We learnt the word waterproof and had a look at our own waterproofs, coats and wellies.

The challenge will now be to make a coat for Red Riding Hood that won’t tear and will keep her dry.

Pairs of socks

This week in maths we are learning to group objects. We have talked about equal and unequal groups and have now started learning about groups of 2’s, 5’s and 10’s

Today we used socks and objects to help us make pairs. Lots of children confused the number of objects with the number of pairs so we will continue to work on this.

Ideas to practice at home

Sorting socks into matching pairs and counting the pairs

Find pairs of objects around the house

Find pairs of objects on the body eg 2 eyes and say how many pairs

Thank you for helping us!

Many thanks to those parents who have supported us by no longer bringing buggies and prams into the F1 classroom at the beginning of the morning session. Your baby is still most welcome if you would like to bring them in carrying them. We can no longer accommodate the buggies as it causes a safeguarding problem and is against Health and Safety procedures. Mrs Ibbertson and Mrs Renwick

Book and a biscuit

Thank you to all the adults that came to read with their child today. It was lovely to see so many children engaged in reading. If you couldn’t make it then don’t worry. The sessions will be on a Monday and a Friday 2.30-3.00.

Tasting porridge

We all explored dry and wet porridge. We felt at the different textures and used exciting words to describe how it felt on our hands. Then we talked about washing our hands properly and preparing food correctly. We tasted porridge that wasn’t too hot, “It was just right!” Just like Baby Bears’ porridge.

We made masks.

We made masks to add to our role play so we could pretend to be Goldilocks or one of the bears. We are practising with scissors and glue sticks so we can then use these skills independently in our F1 setting.
