Today we made some chapatis after looking at the story chapati moon. The children enjoyed reading and following the recipe, then tasting them afterwards.

Today 3 postcards were given out for amazing literacy work! Leighton has been trying really hard to write his name neatly, forming all the letters correctly. Sulieman has moved up to red reading shelf and Lita impressed me with her initial sounds matching sheet. Well done everybody!

The children made a card to say thank you to Bharvin and Nima for coming to school to help them learn about Diwali and their culture and customs. Nima came to collect the card today and said it was a privilege to work with the children.
Thank you to Bharvin and Nima from all the staff and children in EYFS.

Today we have tried some delicious Indian food including pakoras, samosas and naan bread. We also discussed some ingredients from our story, Chapatti moon, that Indian people use a lot to cook with.

As part of Black History Month F2 had the opportunity to virtually meet Mayowa Precious Agbabiaka today. She read her story There’s Rice at Home. We learnt about the food that was in the story and what was different to the food we have.

Today in F2 we made our very own Diya lamps out of clay. The children practiced their fine motor skills as they pinched and squeezed the clay to make it into a bowl like shape. We are very excited to paint them next week and place a candle inside.

A huge well done to our yellow T-shirt winner, Ines, today. Ines is a pleasure to have in the F2W crew, she is always kind to her peers and works very hard.
Shoutout to everyone else who also received a postcard today. Keep up the amazing work.

Some of the children were interested in the patterns that they could see in the Indian clothes. They talked about the shapes that the patterns made and then drew lots of different sized swirls to match the patterns.

As part of our special day learning about Indian culture and festivals the children explored different artefacts. Some of the children chose to draw them. Here are 2 fantastic pictures drawn by Paisley and Ines.

A big shoutout to our two experts that came in today to teach us lots about Diwali. The children learnt all about Diwali celebrations, the story of Rama and Sita and how to make rangoli patterns. We also got to taste some delicious Indian treats.
