Thank you 1/2K, itās been a blast! 💥
The children in 2P discussed the concept of race and racism. First we discussed the life of Rosa Parks and how she suffered years of discrimination and segregation.
Next, we discussed how people all have similarities and differences but at times some people will not be kind because of the differences.
Through drama, role play and discussions we worked out what would be seen as racism and what wouldnāt. The children then linked this to the life of Rosa Parks and realised that, at times, some people will not be kind because of the differences.
We used our knowledge to create a short piece of drama that reenacted the story of Rosa Parks on the bus. You can watch this here:
#LovePlover
Plover welcomes you to the halloween disco on Monday 30th October. Entry cost Ā£1.50. Please drop and pick children up from their class door. Check your child’s halloween key stage poster to find out the start and end time.
The perseverance of the children in 2L has really blown me away today. They have all worked so hard to create some beautiful artwork of Rosa Parks. Today we practised using new techniques with charcoal and then used these techniques to create a portrait of Rosa. Iām sure we have a few budding artists in our class!
Well done everyone!
Dear Parent / Carer
On Thursday, KS1 will be discussing the NSPCCās Talk Pants rules in our Crew session. During these discussions, we will aim to teach our children the following important safety skills without giving explicit information or telling scary stories. These are the PANTS rules:
P: Privates are private
A: Always remember your body belongs to you.
N: No means NO!
T: Talk about secrets that upset you.
S: Speak up, someone can help you.
The Crew session empowers children, in an age-appropriate way, to recognise their rights to their own bodies, say not to touch that is unwanted, and tell someone if they feel uncomfortable. The lessons include activities, which help children understand:
If you would like to know more about the NSPCCās campaign more information can be found at: nspcc.org.uk/pants.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Kind regards
KS1 Team.
Today we started our portraits of Rosa Parks. Thereās a long way to go until these are finished but they are looking great so far.
This week in Y2 we have been writing a non-chronological report on Rosa Parks. The children researched Rosa before writing paragraphs about her significance to the Civil Rights Movement. Everybody has worked really hard but these children popped to Y6 to show Miss Topliss what an amazing job they had done. I hope she doesn’t try to pinch you for her class!
