Air habitats
Today the children enjoyed creating a woodland habitat using natural resources. We were sure to add the different levels of the woodland including the forest floor, the herb layer, shrub layer, understory, canopy and emergent layer. The children did a wonderful job, what do you think?
Movie Night!
Year 2 settled down to watch The Bee Movie. This film links nicely to our current expedition and helped us to see the things that bees like in their habitat and to help them to survive. We were also able to imagine what life could be like as a bee and why we need to look after them!

Little Twitchers!
2P have been Scientists today by using their observational skills to conduct a survey. We took part in the RSPBâs Big School Bird Watch and spent time looking and identifying different bird species. We will submit our data to be used in the national survey. We were surprised by how many birds we saw considering how cold it was. Wood Pigeon were definitely the most common!

Habitat builders!
2P have been learning about woodland habitats. We used our knowledge of the layers of woodlands to recreate a habitat scene from natural materials. We tried to include the forest floor and winter trees. We even attempted to make animals and birds from the materials around us!

Woodland Habitats 🌳
This afternoon 1/2K discussed the habitats of animals that fly. We focussed on the woodland and the different layers of the woods. We also discussed the importance of having woodland areas and what it would mean for birds if they were chopped down.
We then used natural resources to create a woodland picture.
Somebody Swallowed Stanley!
This morning we introduced our new class text which is âSomebody Swallowed Stanleyâ. We revealed the front cover to the children and we made inferences about it. E.g. where do they think the story was set? They used their knowledge of animals to decipher that it must have been under the sea as he is surrounded by animals with gills! We also thought about what Stanley might be thinking and feeling. The children used the front cover to look for clues to prove their thinking. We then made jellyfish to decorate our classroom with a to represent the jellyfish in the story.
