The children in Mr longley’s reading group this week started reading a new text linked to the expedition, Ready, Steady, Grow: How can I be the healthiest version of me?
The text is called The Great Food Bank Heist by the amazing author Onjali Q. Rauf.
Chapter 1 is below if you would like to read the first chapter.
Some questions you might want to ask:
What does the word heist mean?
Who are the main characters?
How do we know how old the characters are?
Where might the story be set and how do we know?
What is mum’s job? Does it pay well?
What problem do the characters have in the story? How does it make them feel?
KS1 have been hard at work preparing for and presenting their student-led conferences today. It was fantastic to see and hear so many SLCs taking place this evening.
Please speak to your crew leader if you have not booked in or are unsure about your times.
It has been great to see all of the children back in school after the break and so keen to get on with their new learning.
We began with a collaborative Crew task to get the children back into the routines of working together. We created a bizarre robot by designing different sections of it in each group and putting it together at the end. A very unique design!
We have then used stop motion animation to hook ourselves into our new learning. We created a simple scene and then shot the movies ourselves. Have a look at one of our examples:
Crew LP have made a Christmas card for our local fire station. We wanted to say a big thank you for everything they do to keep our community safe and wish them a very merry Christmas.
In our Crew sessions this week, we got creative and made a Christmas card for staff at Doncaster Stories. We chose this charitable organisation as they have donated lots of brand new books to our very own Plover Pantry, so we wanted to show our appreciation to them.
Well done to all of 2L, you did yourselves, Plover and your grown ups so proud! We definitely have a few actors/actresses in the making! #LovePlover 🎄✨️🎅🏽
