UK PARLIAMENT WEEK

This week, the children have been taking part in UK Parliament Week, exploring how our government works and why Parliament is such an important part of our democracy.

On Monday, we began with an exciting virtual tour of the Houses of Parliament. The children enjoyed looking around the key parts of the building, including the House of Commons, the House of Lords, and learning about the role of the monarchy. We also talked about what Parliament does and why it matters.

On Tuesday, we learned about the State Opening of Parliament. Together, we explored what happens during this traditional ceremony and why it takes place. The children then worked hard to put the key events of the State Opening in the correct order.

Today, our focus was on the role of a Member of Parliament (MP). Using the iPads, the children researched who our local MP is and gathered the key information they needed. They really enjoyed discovering more about the person who represents our area in the House of Commons.

The children have shown great curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the week. We’re proud of how well they have engaged with these big ideas and developed their understanding of how decisions are made in the UK.
