The Deep 🐠

Here’s a few more pictures from our adventures at the Deep yesterday!

THE DEEP 🐠

Today half of 1/2K and 1C have had a wonderful day exploring the deep. We have seen lots of exciting things and have taken part in a fantastic workshop called “Save Our Seas”. Our activity leader was very impressed with what the children already knew about the topic.

Marvellous Home Learning in 1C!

Just look at the beautiful work Almina created at home! She has made an entire ocean in a tank and included examples of pollution, which is harming our sea creatures. This is linked to our current expedition in Key Stage 1; The Blue Planet. She also wrote this beautiful piece explaining why it is important that we look after our oceans!
Well done Almina! I am very proud!

Instructions: Bee Hotel 🐝

As part of our new writing unit, we are learning to write instructions. Today, we practiced following some instructions on how to make a bee hotel. First we collected some sticks to create the middle section. Then we made our bed hotels in mini crews before heading outside to put them in our eco-garden.

We are scientists! 👩‍🔬👨‍🔬

4B have been scientists investigating which surfaces are the best to travel on. After conducting our experiment, we compared which surfaces the counter travelled the furthest on when pushed. We discovered that the counter travelled the shorter distance on surfaces which were rough and bumpy because it had more friction compared to the smoother surfaces with less.
Well done 4B for working well together in your mini crews!

Pond Habitats 🐸

This afternoon, 1/2K created our own pond. We discussed what we would need to create our pond. We found out we would need fresh water (not salt water), plants and rocks.

SAVE OUR SEAS!

This afternoon in 1/2K we learned about pollution in more detail. We learned that pollution is usually rubbish that has been dumped into the rivers and carried out to sea. We found out that it can end up in the deepest part of the ocean; The Mariana Trench. We practiced our recycling by sorting different objects into plastic, metal and paper. Then we created posters to help raise awareness about sea pollution and what it is doing to the animals.

twit twoo! 🐦

This afternoon we have been bird watching. We put our coats on to see what birds we could spot in our local environment. To our surprise we saw lots of different types of birds. We created a tally chart of all of the birds we could find and the most common one we spotted was a blackbird. Thank you for the loveliest afternoon 1/2K!

Woodland Habitats 🌳

This afternoon 1/2K discussed the habitats of animals that fly. We focussed on the woodland and the different layers of the woods. We also discussed the importance of having woodland areas and what it would mean for birds if they were chopped down.
We then used natural resources to create a woodland picture.
