I was so proud to take the Year 5 book club to the Doncaster Storytelling Festival at the Dome on Tuesday.
We have been reading and reviewing books all this year and the Festival was the culmination of all that work.

It began with audience participation in some performance poetry by the poet Paul Cookson and illustrator Liz Million – we were lucky enough to be given one of Liz’s pictures that she drew in front of us.
This was followed by a Q&A session and our very own Tim was chosen to ask a question in front of everyone. He didn’t show any nerves and asked a great question to Liz and Paul.
We then had a talk by authors Ramsey HassanĀ and Anna Brooke. Ramsey, author of ‘The Cheat Book’, showed us some ‘cheats’ for drawing cartoon characters in his draw-along session and Anna sang us a song from her book ‘Monster Bogey’.
Finally, at the end of the afternoon, we found out the winners of the Doncaster Author and Illustrator prizes – something we have been waiting for since we first started reading the books in the autumn term. It was no surprise to learn the Anna Brooke won the author prize for Monster Bogey and that the book’s illustrator, Owen Lindsay, also won the illustrator prize for his excellent artwork.
We had a great day, topped of with a free book and an ice lolly to eat on the hot walk home.
Thank you guys for making it such an enjoyable day for both Mrs Thompson and Myself.
