We have been creating harvest pictures this week, using sponges, fruit and vegetables to print with paint.

We have been learning about harvest and Autumn. Outside we created a tractor to extend our learning in provision. The children loved pretending to drive the tractor and gathering corn.

Well done Maisie for being super kind and making your brother a birthday card for his birthday. You worked super hard on your hand writing and letter formation to make the card.

This week Year 1 have been working as artists. We have been learning how to use powder paint to mix primary and secondary sources. We have also been working on mastering brush control. We can’t wait to show you our Great Fire of London artwork.

There are times when I wish I had recorded a lesson. Today was definitely one of those times. I’ve never seen so many over dramatic children posing as Roman soldiers in a variety of situations. When they ‘came to life’ as I touched their heads, some of their comments were absolutely priceless:
“Are we nearly there yet?” “Outta the way I’m gonna be sick!” “Hold on for your life, there’s another wave coming!”

“How cold is this water?!” “No one said about this before we set off.” “So…cold…so…far…”

“Where on Earth am I?” “What is that supposed to be?” “Why is it so wet and so cold?”

“Claudius ordered us to build a settlement but I’m too tired. I must sleep!” “Sleep now, build later.”

“Oof, urgh, hmpf!” “I don’t know how many more bricks I can pass you!” “How heavy!” “OW!”

“Let’s be ‘avin yaaaaaaaa!” “CELTS COMING!” “Who are ya?” “Attack!” “Incoming!”

I honestly don’t know where they get it from! Well done 4H now to transfer those actions and words into writing! You’ve got this, folks!

At the start of both our morning and afternoon sessions we have been working on getting more physically active, to help get get our brains ready to learn. So far this week we have enjoyed doing “wake up shake up” dances and play dough disco, which also helps to develop our fine motor skills. It’s been lovely to see the children so active and involved!

As part of our Tuesday afternoon hall time we have been learning some circle games such as duck duck goose and farmers in his den. This week we was lucky enough to have some of our new soft play equipment arrive! The children loved working together to build towers with the shapes and race on the bouncey horses.
