This week we have been sharing the story Goldy Luck and the three Pandas as an alternative text to Goldilocks and the three bears. This has led us on to learning about Chinese New Year.
We created a list of all the facts that we could think of relating to Chinese New Year and China. Some of the children remembered learning about Pandas.
We tasted different Chinese food. We talked about how it was safe for the children to eat it even though it was different to what they normally ate. We made a tally of the food we liked.

This little superstar and her family wanted to support our Plover pantry and donated all pictures above. Neveah was so excited to bring this into school and to help at the pantry this afternoon. An awesome example of ‘being kind’ and a 4 in her HoWLs! Well done lovely!

Yesterday, we learned about keeping safe online. We know to ‘STOP, CLOSE and TELL’, if we see a pop-up appear. In the story we saw what happened when children don’t do this. All the children now know what to do if they see a pop-up on their screen. They have brought home a gremlin to place near their device as a reminder.
To celebrate Chinese New Year we have tasted some delicious Chinese food today. We read the story “I love Chinese New Year” and listened to some Chinese music. We spoke about cultural differences and had a go at eating our food with chopsticks, just like they do in China. We have also looked at what animal it was the year we was born, after learning that this year is the year of the dragon, and explored some different Chinese items in our tough tray.

Over the last couple of weeks, we have been learning about looking after our mental health as well as our physical health. We read a story about a colour monster whose emotions were all mixed up. He had help to sort the emotions into jars. His emotions were all different colours. We have discussed the colours we feel for different emotion words we have learned. Mrs Bubb talked about an emotion and if we had the colour that represented that emotion we made matksbon the paper with it. We all saw different colours for different emotions.
This morning’s crew was mindful colouring. We all really enjoyed sitting quietly and exercising our mind to be calm and quiet. We are learning to #bekind to ourselves.
Crew Pickering used our session to talk about how it makes us feel on the inside when we see something online that makes us feel scared, unhappy or worried. We discussed what a trusted adult was and gave examples of who our trusted adults would be. Being kind online was the only way we should be!

Today is Safer Internet Day, in school we are working with the children to remind them of how we stay safe online. Here is some information for parents and carers to look over as to how you can support your child online.
Today, 3GS investigated the island of Svalbard north of Norway, looking at the physical and human features.
I wonder how it compares with Doncaster? We’ll find out tomorrow!
