5S had a brilliant time visiting the wonder dome, learning about the history of the universe, the size and makeup of stars, and the scale of Earth compared with the wider universe.
It was lovely to hear all of your curious questions and know it has sparked some excitement for our upcoming expedition – well done 5S!
Today, all the children in years 5 and 6 visited 5M where we learnt all about air resistance and the effects it has on movement. We experimented with paper, and focused how the size affects the speed something is travelling. The children then made different sized parachutes to help them to see this in action.
The children are so excited to demonstrate this to you all.
Today, all the children in years 5 and 6 visited my room where we had a discussion about how the Earth’s rotation causes night and day. I demonstrated by using a torch (the sun) and rotating a globe (the Earth), then we held a further discussion about how all our measurements of time are affected by astronomical bodies and their orbits.
We look forward to demonstrating this to you in future!
Years 5 and 6 had a great time today, solving a series of clues to unravel the guiding question for our autumn expedition.
They worked together to solve a series of puzzles and brain-teasers to unscramble the word ‘infinity’ – part of our expedition title and guiding question: ‘To and infinity and beyond: how does movement affect our world?’

As part of our first week back and developing our new crews, some of our Y5 pupils had the opportunity to visit the RSPCA. They were able to meet some of the dogs who are waiting to find their forever home. Y5 are working on a very exciting project with the RSPCA so watch this space- more details to follow shortly!

Following our call with the Doncaster branch of the RSPCA, we today worked to support them by sketching the dogs they have for adoption and beginning to type some pieces of persuasive writing, hoping to encourage potential homes for their pets. This required us to recall the features of persuasive writing, as well as develop our computing skills in word processing.
To aid with providing good information in our writing, we also had a visit from Mrs Ogle’s dog where we asked questions about what it takes to be a responsible owner.
I can’t wait to see your finished pieces, they’re looking great already!
Year 5 and 6 had a special visit from Tommy and Pebbles today, who gave them suggestions on how to get to the top of the mountain and be successful in their final year of primary school.
This was followed by feedback from Year 5 children who fed back to us about their trip to the RSPCA and what we can do to help and support them.
