Just a reminder that there are a number of Y5 children doing bikeability this week. Can the children please come in comfortable sports wear and trainers, with sun cream and potentially a rain coat. Can the children please bring their bikes and helmets if they said they was going to bring them. Thank you

XP Arts Festival
On Friday, we celebrated the wonderful talent we have at Plover School and more widely across the whole trust.
The Plover LKS2 Cheerleaders and UKS2 singers entertained the audiences and the Year 4 dancers performed the routine they have been working on for weeks.
It was a very hot day but the children kept their energy high for their performances in the afternoon and evening and they were a very gracious audience for the other performers.
What a great day!

Staying safe around water
At this week’s swimming lesson, as part of drowning prevention week, Year 5 worked with the teachers to understand the key aspects of water safety, and learning to swim when they are fully clothed. Every child fully understood the importance and was able to articulate well how they could remain safe.
To supplement this, we created water safety posters in our we care Wednesday crew session which are now on display at the leisure centre, well done!

Should the pits be closed?
Today, we learned about the miners strike of 1984-5 and debated the reasons for and against the pits being closed.
We learned about the impact of the strike action on families and the steadfast resistance that was presented from Thatcher’s government.
Children were provided a ‘side’ of the debate – that of Thatcher and the National Coal Board vs that of Arthur Scargill and the National Union of Miners.
It was great to see the children articulate both sides of the argument so clearly and build on their knowledge that there always two (or more!) sides to a debate.
Year 5 are on strike!
(Not really!)
Today, Year 5 learnt about the reasons workforces take strike action, what happens on a picket line and why it can be a difficult decision for employees to work without pay when they feel their rewards or conditions are unacceptable.
The children were challenged to consider a reason they might want to strike then take part in a peaceful demonstration and picket to illicit support for their cause. Well done all!
