Today in our RE lesson, Year 1 learnt all about Christenings and Baptisms. Some children even acted out a role play of a Christening. They were then able to pop the key words onto the picture of a baptism scene. Super work Year 1!
I am super proud of year 1 for the work they had been displaying today in RE. Today we have been looking at what the purpose of celebrations are and why we do them. We discussed what we need to include in a birthday party after looking at pictures of what a celebration event looks like and they came up with a fantastic list!
We wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you from Key Stage 1 to everyone who helped raise money towards the buddy benches. We were blown away by the kind donations, which will help us buy two handcrafted buddy benches for the playgrounds as part of our current expedition.
Well done to everyone who donated money and completed their sponsored walk today. It really was a big crew effort!
We look forward to sharing our designs and the finished product shortly.
On Friday 1/2K discussed their thoughts on our most recent case studies; Rosa Parks and Remembrance. They discussed why they thought Rosa Parks was a hero and how her brave actions changed the world. They also discussed the life of the soldiers and why they thought they were heroes.
This week the children have enjoyed making poppies and talking about the reason we use them to remember and celebrate.
We had an amazing assembly from Elizabeth’s mum, as an Expert visitor, speaking to us about her life as a soldier. We also had a moving assembly, featuring Mr Chandler playing us the last post on his trumpet.
We have been learning about verbs as action words, please talk about verbs at home in your everyday activities.
Well done to those children who sent in their wonderful home learning!
Here are some examples from John and Almina.
Well done to Alfie, for his hard work in phonics and showing his mum his achievements at home.
This week 1/2K have been getting active in the classroom. We’ve been enjoying some counting exercises to warm up for Maths! We have also been bringing technology into the classroom during our Maths lesson and working in pairs to develop our team working skills.
As part of our remembrance topic, we have been creating Poppy art. First we drew our poppies using wax crayons. Then we used the water colours to create a background. We were able to wash over our wax crayon picture without it smudging; it was like magic! The children talked about using different colours to represent the smoke there might have been or browns puddles to make mud. We also made poppies using wire, buttons and cupcake cases. It was very fiddly but we are so pleased with the result.
Crew:
As part of our We Care Wednesday, we were exploring the nature of friendships and discussing what it takes to be a great friends. We decided that the most important quality in a friend is to be kind and caring.
After our special Remembrance assembly, Mr Chandler very kindly spent time with KS1 sharing his expertise about learning and playing the cornet! #LovePlover
