Today, we were looking at the results of our science experiments and making conclusions.
We looked at what plants need to live and decided that the most successful cress had light, water and nutrients. Even though seeds in other conditions sprouted, the plants were smaller and very pale.
We were really excited about how our experiment into how water is transported through plants turned out. It was hard to draw conclusions about which temperature conditions were the best for the celery, but we could very clearly see how the water and food colouring was absorbed and transported through the xylem in the celery. We cut the celery horizontally and could see the small holes of the xylem in the end of the stem and then we cut the celery vertically and could see how the xylem went right through the plant to the leaves at the top.
It’s great being scientists!
