1C are Sculpture Artists!

Apologies for some very messy jumpers, but we have had a brilliant day! Inspired by the comparisons we have been making with Mexico, we have made our own Chichen Itza out of clay. We began the morning by learning some different skills to manipulate clay by rolling, pinching and coiling.

We then worked collaboratively to create our piece. The children had to roll out their clay to the correct thickness; to do this we used sticks to guide us! The children then used different cutters and used tools to help us cut off the excess clay. The children then scraped their piece and created a slip which helped to connect the pieces. They then rolled out an extra piece and used the tools to created the stairs.
