I would just like to say how proud I am of 1H today! We have done some great work.
We have been learning a poem about ladybugs to help us with our reading and writing, we love performing it and some of the children have asked to learn a new one every week!
In maths we have been working with numbers from 11-20. Today we were representing pictures of objects using counters, we all did fantastically well. Why not gather some objects at home, count them and see if you can represent them in a different way? You could use counters, matchsticks, raisins or lego bricks!
A reminder to please bring reading books and records every day if possible. Thank you.
A quick post to say how impressed I am with 1H this morning in their English lesson. We are learning about non-fiction texts and have been unpicking the features collaboratively to create our own ‘non-fiction text toolkit’.
We have really enjoyed working together to identify the features!
A couple of weeks ago, the children had a visit from the Doncaster Library Service to talk about how brilliant visiting the library can be. Miss Heaton has sent a form home to set up a library card for the children – this would be so beneficial as the children in 1H are loving reading for pleasure! Please return forms to school and we will send them on to the library service.
A huge thank you to those children and parents who have been on Maths with Parents. I have read some of your comments and I am so pleased to hear you are enjoying the games and having lots of fun with maths at home!
1H have had another great day today.
We have been editing our own work in English, thinking about what is good and how we can improve.
In maths, we are moving onto 2D and 3D shapes. I have set up a new topic on Maths with Parents which will start on Wednesday 23rd October.
Reminder: PE is every Friday. There is a competition in KS1 for the class that has the most PE kits each week, the prize is an extra playtime!
The Halloween disco is next Tuesday 4:30-5:15pm. Children can dress up if they wish, and bring money for sweets and a drink. Tickets on the door. There is a poster on Miss Heaton’s window for more information.
Today in 1H we have been finishing our recounts of Potteric Carr. We have responded to Miss Heaton’s feedback with green pen 🙂 We also reordered some sentences to help us with our reading and writing.
In maths, we started learning about subtraction. We did some super work and Miss Heaton, Miss Smith and Mrs Cunningham are really impressed! We also now have our own pots of playdoh to help us work out the answers to addition and subtraction questions.
This afternoon, we have been learning about animal food chains, and have started to draw some lovely pictures in groups. Pictures to follow later in the week!
Reminder: please sign up to Maths with Parents! The games are brilliant and I will add a new unit at the end of this week. If you need help to do this, please please ask 🙂
A big thank you from Miss Heaton, Mrs Cunningham and Miss Smith for 1H’s fantastic behaviour and work today. You have all showed good listening skills and have produced really high quality work all day.
We have started our new text called ‘Meerkat Mail’ which we are really enjoying. It is about a meerkat who goes travelling and sends postcards home.
In maths we have being doing some addition and some of us worked in pairs to solve number sentences with numbers to 20! Great teamwork.
Reminder: tomorrow there is a bun sale in school. Buns will be 20p if your child would like one.
A big thank you from Miss Heaton to all of the children and adults that came on the trip to Potteric Carr yesterday. I was so impressed with how well you listened and engaged with the activities, we all loved pond dipping and minibeast hunting! We are excited to do some writing about our trip in the next few weeks.
A quick reminder to sign up to Maths with Parents if you haven’t already done so, I have set a task of addition and subtraction. The games are great fun! If you need the class code there is a poster on the classroom window or just ask Miss Heaton. I have checked today who has been online and was so pleased to see some children have enjoyed the games!
Further to Friday’s newsletter, ‘Frog learning’ will also be another online way of completing quick quizzes and tasks. Usernames and passwords for this will be sent out as soon as possible.
We have had a really exciting day in 1H today! Warburton’s have visited school and have taught us about eating healthily. We made lots of sandwiches using tuna, ham, sweetcorn, salad and lots of other yummy ingredients. We have all got a lovely certificate which will be ready to take home tomorrow.
Reminder: please remember to bring consent forms for the Potteric Carr trip back to Miss Heaton and pay via ParentPay. The trip is on Monday 30th September 🙂 Thank you.
We have been so busy in year 1 today. In English, we sequenced our story ‘Du Iz Tak?’ and wrote some sentences to match the pictures.
In maths, we have been working on counting forwards to 10 and representing numbers to 10. We used cubes and pictures to do this in partners.
We have also done some yoga as a class today, we loved it!
Reminder: PE is Thursday this week (19/9)because of the training day on Friday.
