Pride of Plover

Congratulations Riley, you’re this week’s Pride of Plover. I’m really impressed by your attitude to listening and learning. I’m also amazed by your super comprehension on Accelerated Reader, you’ve listened carefully to stories shared with you and answered ALL questions you’ve been asked correctly! Keep up the great work. #LovePlover

The Masked Reader

Take a look at our World Book Day website! Children have looked at the website during Crew this morning. We currently have a lot of excitement in school as children ask one another, ‘Who’s that behind the book?’ Each day leading up to World Book Day, 4 masked readers will be added to the site with clues to their identity. Can you guess who is behind each book?

Are you feeling inspired? Why not send a picture of yourself, with your face hidden behind a book, to your teacher. You could try other ways to disguise your identity too! You can also write your own clues to try and help your peers work out who is hiding!

Chocolate Rocks and Great Geologists

This week in Year 3 and 4 we have learning all about…….rocks!

You wouldn’t think there was a lot to say about a rock, but ask any of our LKS2 children  and they will tell you that rocks have hidden depths!

We have learnt that they can be Igneous, Metamorphic or Sedimentary and what the difference is between them.

We have put our learning into practice today, using chocolate! It was a bit messy and some of us found it very difficult to fight the temptation of eating the chocolate, but we were able to show how sedimentary and metamorphic rocks are formed.

Check out the website to try the activity at home – but don’t forget to send in the photos!

Pride of Plover

Well done James, what a week you have had! Not only did you win the Year 4 Dunkin Donuts Reading Prize, but your hard work online this week, your kindness to others and your excellent contributions have led  to your earning the Pride of Plover.

It gave me great pleasure to deliver the certificates and the donuts to you today – I even managed to avoid the temptation of eating one of the doughnuts on the way!!

Enjoy!

Accelerated Reader League

This is becoming my favourite part of the Pride of Plover Assembly, announcing which class is the winner of the Accelerated Reader League!

Congratulations to 6C who have passed the most quizzes, for two weeks running.  However, 6B was very close – it was tight by only 1.6%!

A shoutout goes to 3L, who have been in the top 3 places for the last three weeks.

1st place: 6C

2nd place: 6B

3rd place: 3L

We have seen an increase in the number of quizzes passed for most classes, which means lots of reading and quizzing is happening- both at home and in school!  Keep up the awesome reading KS2.

Dunkin Donuts!

Children across school have been reading and quizzing to be entered to win a box of 6 Dunkin Donuts. Your teachers are incredibly proud of the effort you have put into reading over the past few weeks!

Due to success of this competition, we have decided to run the competition again! There will be a winner from each class and every time you read (and quiz for those children in KS2) in school or at home, you will be entered into the draw!

You have from Friday 26th February until Thursday 26th March to enter. Winners will be announced in Pride of Plover assembly on Friday 27th March, with the winners bringing their boxes of donuts home from school with them!

Good luck everyone!

World Book Day – Friday 5th March

World Book Day will be celebrated in school and at home on Friday 5th March. We would love all children to get involved in the fun. This year, the theme of World Book Day will be ‘Books That Make You LOL’. We would like to invite all children to dress up as a character from a book that makes them laugh. There will be prizes up for grabs for the most creative efforts put into a costume.
Please see our exciting World Book Day Google Site for all the information you will need for the big day!

We are Geologists in Year 4

We have putting our learning into action online in Year 4 today. We have learnt about the properties of rocks this week and today we were Geologists by going out into the garden on a rock hunt and then using Venn Diagrams or Carol Diagrams to classify them, according to their properties.

Well done to James and Anez today’s Year 4 Plover Praise Postcard winners for their hard work and perseverance all day. Here are some photos of their rock investigation.
