Multiple Madness

In PE today we have been working on our Maths skills. We were practicing our times tables and counting in multiples of 10, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 11. We had a great time!

Marvellous morning maths

To help us turn the abstract world of maths and number into something concrete and that we can see, we use manipulatives. Manipulatives are objects that we can use to represent number and there are so many different ways we can use them to support our learning. They help with all levels of maths, and are not just for children that find maths more challenging.

To help us practise the different ways we can use manipulatives, ewe complete a ‘show me’ as our morning activity. It has been ‘Show me a number’ but we will be moving onto ‘show me a number sentence.’

Meeting the Author

3LS have really enjoyed sharing the book ‘Protect the Planet’ by Jess French. Today we had the pleasure of meeting the author online and even asking her some questions.

Data collecting

We have been collecting data in 4L about the different nationalities of children in our class. We started by collecting the data as a tally chart and then working collaboratively to produce a graph to show the data.

Plover Praise in 3G

As I wasn’t in class yesterday morning , I found it hard to select a Plover Praise Postcard receiver, so I chose two today.

Ella has come into school and worked incredibly hard, even though she was a not 100%. She has grappled with Bar Charts and not given up and I am really proud with her great attitude to learning.

Well done, Ella,

Our Plover Praise Postcard went to Paul today for how much effort he put into his learning today.

Marvellous Maths in 3G

We have been learning about graphs and charts this week in maths.

To help us to practise our tally charts and pictograms, we decided to investigate how many different coloured smarties there were in a bag – this had the added incentive of being able to eat the smarties!

We did some greater charts and really improved our maths skills, as we had to grapple with how to create the pictograms.

How has our community grown?

Today we have been investigating how are community is made up and how it has changed over the years. We have used our maths skills to create a tally to record our countries of origin. We have discovered that intake has become more diverse and people from all over the world have migrated here.

Where do your family originate from? How far have they travelled?
